TOKYO (May 27-29) – Yamanashi Gakuin University, led by Masakazu KAMOI and anchored by Kazakh world team member Oleg BOLTIN, rolled to a 5-2 win over Nippon Sports Sciences University to repeat as champions of the East Japan collegiate wrestling tournament.
Kamoi and Boltin went undefeated in the three-day tournament at Komazawa Gymnasium in Tokyo as YGU won its fifth overall title by also defeating Kokushikan University, 6-1, and Nihon University, 5-2, in the championship group of the 16-team first division.
Kokushikan, meanwhile, defeated NSSU for the first time since 1997 in the championship group duals and claimed their first runner-up trophy since 1998.
In the second division, Tokai University won three straight duals in the top group to earn promotion to the first division. Second-place Rikkyo lost its challenge with Tokyo Agricultural and missed out on its chance for promotion or net yar's torne.
